Apex Endodontics is based at Thame Park Business Centre in Oxfordshire and welcomes patients and professional referrals from neighbouring Buckinghamshire.
Our practice is dedicated to endodontics: the branch of dentistry concerned with the pulp, roots and tissues surrounding a tooth. This focused expertise allows our team to assess and manage straightforward, complex and previously treated cases using specialist techniques and technology.
If you have been told that you need root canal treatment, have continued pain after previous treatment, or require an opinion about whether a tooth can be saved, our team can assess the problem and explain the available options clearly.
An endodontist focuses on diagnosing and treating problems involving the inside of a tooth and its root canal system.
Treatment may be needed when the dental pulp has become inflamed, injured or infected because of:The aim is to relieve symptoms, remove infection and preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.
Many root canal procedures can be carried out in general dental practice. A specialist opinion may be helpful when the diagnosis or treatment is more complex.
Your dentist may recommend referral when:Apex works collaboratively with referring dentists and provides clear reports and an organised handover following treatment.
Complex-case experience
The team accepts referrals for primary root canal treatment, re-treatment, root-end surgery, perforation repair, resorption, dental trauma and challenging pain diagnoses.
Advanced technology
Dental operating microscopy provides high magnification and illumination, helping the clinician examine detailed root canal anatomy and work with greater precision.
Advanced imaging, including CBCT where clinically appropriate, can provide a three-dimensional view of a tooth and its surrounding structures to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
Focus on preserving natural teeth
Our aim is to explore whether a compromised tooth can be predictably treated and retained before extraction or replacement is considered.
Patient comfort and communication
We understand that patients referred for specialist root canal care may feel anxious. The team explains the diagnosis, options and likely treatment journey clearly, giving patients time to ask questions and make informed decisions.
Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment is used when the tissue inside a tooth has become inflamed or infected. The root canal system is cleaned, disinfected, filled and sealed to help control infection and preserve the tooth.
Root canal re-treatment
A previously treated tooth can sometimes develop persistent symptoms or signs of infection.
Specialist re-treatment may involve removing earlier filling materials or posts, identifying untreated anatomy under magnification, and carefully disinfecting and sealing the canal system again.
Apicoectomy and root-end surgery
Where infection persists after previous root canal treatment and conventional re-treatment is not suitable, microsurgical root-end treatment may be considered.
This involves removing infected tissue around the root tip and sealing the end of the root using specialist techniques and materials.
Perforation repair
A perforation is an unwanted opening between the root canal system and the surrounding tissues.
Apex assesses and manages suitable perforations using high magnification, careful disinfection and biocompatible repair materials.
Resorption management
Internal or external resorption can damage tooth structure and may be discovered during a routine examination or after symptoms develop.
Treatment depends on the location, extent and prognosis of the defect and may involve non-surgical or surgical care.
Dental trauma
The team manages endodontic aspects of dental trauma, including injuries involving the tooth pulp, roots and supporting tissues.
Timely assessment and appropriate follow-up can have an important effect on the future of an injured tooth.
Intentional reimplantation and autotransplantation
In selected cases, Apex can assess specialist biological alternatives to extraction or prosthetic tooth replacement.
These procedures require detailed assessment and careful coordination with the patient’s wider dental team.

Root canal systems can be extremely small and anatomically complex.
Apex uses specialist technology to help identify hidden anatomy, assess difficult symptoms and perform treatment accurately.
This may include:The technology used will depend on the needs of the individual case.
Your dentist can submit a referral through the Apex website. Patients can also contact the team with questions about appointments and the referral process.

5. Report and handoverFollowing treatment, Apex communicates with the referring dentist and explains any further restoration or monitoring required.
Many patients arrive feeling apprehensive about root canal treatment.
Our approach is calm, clear and unhurried. We explain what is happening, check that you are comfortable and give you opportunities to pause or ask questions.

An endodontist diagnoses and treats problems affecting the dental pulp, root canal system and tissues around the root. This includes root canal treatment, re-treatment, endodontic surgery, trauma and complex dental pain.
Specialist assessment may be helpful for difficult anatomy, molar teeth, persistent symptoms, a failed previous treatment, dental trauma, suspected cracks, resorption or cases requiring advanced imaging and microscopy.
Apex Endodontics is based in Thame, Oxfordshire, close to Buckinghamshire. The practice welcomes patients and referrals from Buckinghamshire and the surrounding region.
Your dentist can refer you directly through the Apex referral pathway. Patients may also contact the practice for information about appointments and whether a referral is required for their circumstances.
Some previously treated teeth can be successfully re-treated, depending on the condition of the tooth, the cause of failure and its long-term prognosis. A specialist assessment is required before treatment can be recommended.
Treatment is normally carried out using local anaesthetic. The team checks that you are comfortable before proceeding, although experiences and recovery vary between patients.
Appointment length depends on the complexity of the case. At Apex, a typical treatment appointment is around 90 minutes. Many cases are completed in one visit, while some require an additional appointment.
The practice uses dental operating microscopy, advanced imaging and contemporary treatment techniques. CBCT may be recommended where a three-dimensional image would provide useful diagnostic or planning information.
Apex provides appropriate aftercare instructions and communicates with the referring dentist. Further restoration or ongoing monitoring may be needed to protect the treated tooth.
Dentists can use the online referral form or contact Apex Endodontics. The Endo Hotline is also available for professional advice and discussion of complex cases.
Whether you have been referred for specialist treatment or need advice about the next step, our team is here to help.
