MChD BChD BSc MFDS RCS (Ed) MClinDent (Endodontology) MEndo RCS (Eng) Mendo RCS (Ed)
GDC Registered Specialist In Endodontics

James' ability to save teeth that would otherwise be removed is why patients travel to see him for Root Canal Treatment.

He qualified as a dentist from the University of Leeds with merit, following which he worked in general practice in Edinburgh. He then undertook two years as a senior house officer in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal United Hospital in Bath and Restorative Dentistry at the Royal London Hospital. During this time, he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) with the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Treating complex cases in a hospital environment led James to develop a keen interest in Endodontics, resulting in his acceptance onto the four-year specialist training programme at Guy's and King's College London Dental Institute, which he completed with distinction. He has also been awarded the prestigious Membership in Endodontics by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh—one of the highest qualifications in the field.

James also has a keen interest in research and is a published author in the International Endodontic Journal, the most prestigious endodontic journal in the world.

In addition to his UK training, James has travelled internationally to learn from world-leading endodontists and dental institutions, further refining his skills in advanced microsurgery and complex re-treatment cases. He is highly skilled in managing patients where previous treatment has failed, as well as in endodontic surgery, and treats all his patients with kindness and confidence.

DIRECTOR Meet Dr Lydia Sharples

MChD BChD BSc( Distinction) PGDip (Ortho)

Lydia is a general dentist and one of the co-founders of Apex Endodontics. She has been practising as a dentist in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire since qualifying from Leeds University, which is where she and James met.

Being a general dentist rather than a specialist, Lydia doesn’t work clinically at Apex Endodontics. Rather, her role as a dentist in general practice has enabled her to understand both the clinical and emotional journey patients go through—especially when being referred for specialist care. This insight has shaped her role at Apex, where she focuses on making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes—for patients, the team, and referrers.

Lydia’s role at Apex Endodontics is centred around:

  • Ensuring an exceptional experience for every patient who walks through our doors, helping them feel at ease from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. Like most dentists, she treats a number of incredibly anxious patients and really prides herself in being able to put them at ease.
  • Making the referral process seamless for our referring clinicians by providing clear communication, efficient systems, and trusted, high-quality clinical care. Lydia understands what makes your life easier when it comes to referrals and that’s what she is here to help with.
  • Supporting our team to deliver a consistently high standard of patient care in a calm, relaxing and welcoming environment.

"I know how important it is to feel confident when referring a patient and I’m here to make sure that confidence is well-placed. I’m really looking forward to building strong, lasting relationships with our local colleagues and working together to give patients the best possible care.”
